I read the news this morning. I even watched that nauseating pair on channel one. The sports news had a rugby story leading on everything I watched/read. No surprises you say! You’d be right – however, the Southern Hemisphere’s premier club competition has its semi finals this weekend in what could be some great battles of pretty good teams. Yet the news was Sonny Bill missing out on the first Bledisloe Cup. Not Colesy returning to captain the Hurricanes in Johannesburg, not the Chiefs in Christchurch and Charlie Ngatai back in the centres – but Sonny Bill. Really?
It’s not Sonny’s fault – he is undoubtedly a gifted and driven athlete who has made the most of any opportunity thrown his way. But, if the Super Rugby is the premier event, the media don’t give it much time do they? Perhaps with South African teams leaving and waning interest especially on the Western side of the Tasman, Super Duper Pooper Rugby has done it’s dash. One can only hope.

I’m off to watch the semi finals on Saturday, should be a good one!
