Realisation from a well placed comment…

hi y’all

sorry it’s been a while.

But what a time to return. The Olympics- a time every four years when people collectively can get fired up about sports they don’t care about. I have to confess I’m much the same…I get swept up in it all.  Sevens was on today and the girls got silver behind a strong Australian side. We shouldn’t be surprised though… The Aussies have been the form team going in and we as New Zealanders don’t have a mortgage on rugby.

I have had some experience in the last few weeks with the New Zealand condition in various organisations that assume that seeing as the all blacks win all is well.

I write this wee post to publicly wonder why we need another law change in rugby? If we refereed the game as it was written in the laws and not how the Specsavers crowd decide the rules should or shouldn’t be applied the game would have more space, more forward play, real back play and more enjoyment. Consequently, referees would be under less pressure because the game would be simple, not open to “interpretation”. One example I really like of improving interpretation is the wheeled scrum. If you wheel the scrum defending and it needs to be reset you get the put-in, but if you wheel it you get penalised. How in the blue fuck do you decide if it was intentionally wheeled or not?

Magnificent.
