Well not really. On a course that hosted the Australian Open last week and had an average score of about 72 (1 over), American Jordan Speith shoots 63 to win by plenty. With just 8 players under par at the end of the week, this was more akin to a major championship than years past. The field included the world number one and three, the former of course was defending champ.
Jordan Speith is 21!!! What a freak. Not overly long but long enough. Superb chipper. Great putter. He is a world beater. This kid has all the tools to beat the shit out of McIlroy and Scott. I hope he realises that. Golf needs a hero, and although Rory is fun to watch – he doesn’t polarise people like Woods did. There will be much debate about whether he is good enough. Whether he has a good swing or not. And that’s where we will get our hero. When he defies the critics and wins anyway.
