Another bloody driver!!

They’ve done it again. Not only have they released a driver called the R78901246 (or something) they’ve released a Burner 2745.0 as well. Just months after letting go of the Adams crew, I think it equated to 15% of their workforce….they do this.
My problem with this sort of carry on comes from an ex-retailers point of view. You see, as an ex golf pro, I had an account with these jokers and was required to hold a certain amount of stock. The issue becomes apparent when you sell a driver to a customer and two weeks later they release another one meaning the last ones are now half price. What incentive would the customer have to buy the latest? Why not wait a few weeks to when they dive in price? The retailer is also in the hole for the wholesale price of the item and to make up for it is given credit. For fucks sake.
Not only are they flooding the market and affecting the local retailer, they affect the game of golf. In dire straits, the golf industry needs the big companies to help not hinder the grass roots pro. It’s difficult enough being a club pro – the committees don’t care and the customers tend to be fiercely disloyal. Flooding the market also leads to a massive online market. eBay, Trademe, and Rockbottom are prime examples.
On another point, how much better is this driver to the last one? I’ll give you the tip, it isn’t. The R1 was the greatest thing ever…no loft and greater distance. The SLDR was the greatest driver ever. The SLDR loft up campaign was all about it. Now what? Another one? You as the golf customer would be better being fitted to a shaft flex and weight and a loft that suits. Fitting should also include the aesthetics and sound of the club. You shouldn’t be blinded by the incessant marketing of a company who actually doesn’t give a toss about your golf game. It is plainly obvious that they are only concerned with numbers and profit. My thoughts are, if you can build the game the profit will come. Something sorely lost on a company like this. Unfortunately it’s something sorely lost on plenty of people who run golf.
TaylorMade/Adidas, how about being part of the solution not the major cause?
