The Age of Discontent

There is much being made of Kevin Pieterson’s new tell-all book where, apparently, he names names and accuses team mates of bullying and intimidation. The native South African has never been a stranger to controversy and why would his book be any different? alastair Cook has said the book tarnishes a great era of English cricket and he’s probably right. I’m sure the truth of the matter lies somewhere between what has been said and what hasn’t.

This leads me to a point about discontent. Do the modern players have little to no respect for the team officials? It was widely rumoured Robbie Deans and Quade Cooper didn’t get on and may have been the reason for some of the poor performance by the Wallabies. With the benefit of hindsight I don’t know that Robbie was the problem.  We’ve seen that Kurtley Beale has had some troubles this week, and it appears that the official in question has quit and the hole gets deeper. Do the players think more of themselves than they actually deserve? I think without careful man-management it’s inevitable that this will happen. So, partly coach partly players? Not sure. What I am sure of is that if you get a team of wankers they will eventually clash. A team of self-pleased fuckwits like the English cricket team should be proof enough. Though I think the Wallabies are probably mostly solid gents, I’m sure not managing the likes of Kurtley Beale is a disastrous mistake. England’s problem is that they have self-pleased wankers in cliques which obviously alienates other players. What we’ve seen is the results take a dive.

I may do a cartoon on Kevin Pieterson – Just Shut Up….
