I watched the All Blacks v South Africa game from Johannesburg and shuddered with terror as Wayne Barnes ran out to officiate. I sit here watching the Aussies play the Pumas, I thought it should be an ok game given that Nigel Owens is the man with whistle. How wrong was I?
The game from Johannesburg was a classic; a great test match between two great teams. Barnes largely stayed out of it. The penalty at the end was fair enough and in my view was Liam Messam’s doing rather than Barnes affecting the result. Owens on the other hand has been nothing short of disgraceful. 3 yellow cards against the Aussies for questionable offences including one to Michael Hooper that can only be a total brain fart. I do wonder if you get farts in your brain what the effect would be?
Just awful refereeing.
My point is, Wayne Barnes is ordinarily the worst international referee since George Ayoub. Nigel Owens is ordinarily very good. Why the inconsistency?
I don’t need to tell you they have no feel for the game. I don’t need to tell you they have too much say in the game. And I’m totally sure you’re aware that they are being coached to within an inch of their lives.
Let me give you a small example. Scrums. What a fucking shambles. Crouch, bind, set, engage, go, stop, shut up, fuck off, hurry up, free kick, wheeling!!! Who knows what’s going on?? Certainly not the players.
I watched the 2005 Second Lions test the other day, where the teams called it in themselves. They were higher standing. And, the ball was in and out a play was on. Plus, you could have push over scrums, wheels and the better scrummagers would win the contest. Now who knows which way the penalty will go????
Pure. Fucking. Guesswork.
The rules aren’t that that complex. Management of the men playing must be at the forefront of refereeing, not to be the centre of attention: read Steve Walsh, Chris Pollock, Wayne Barnes, George Clancy and so on.
Get it right you guys in charge…the future of the sport depends on it. Now, let’s see a great NRL grand final…influenced by players not the retardsinpink !!!
