So Isaac Luke has been banned for the Rabbitohs first Grand Final in a thousand years. Banned for a dangerous tackle on fellow kiwi Sonny-Bill Rich Guy. A tip tackle/spear/dangerous/throw/dump tackle. Banned! Any surprise here?
No. Alex McKinnon was paralysed earlier in the year. Mr. Luke clearly lifted him and this is dangerous. As I watched the NZ Schools Barbarians vs Australian Schools rugby the Aussie first five did the same and was sent from the field.
This sort of thing needs to eradicated and these are the right decisions. However, that’s not what I want to say.
What Isaac did next was all class. He accepted his fate and missing the biggest day in his career, was gracious enough to call his replacement and offer his best wishes. Though he was guilty of a moment of mindless idiocy he showed absolute sportsmanship. Well done Mr. Luke, well done.
