Man-U drew nil all with Burnley this morning. That’s 90 minutes with no score. I didn’t know there was even a place called Burnley. How does one of the most famous sports brands in the world – with the likes of the New York Yankees, the Dallas Cowboys and the All Blacks – go from all-conquering awesomeness to horse shit dribblers?
My contention is that, and you may all say “duh”, since Fergie left they haven’t been the same. “No shit Sherlock!!!” But think about it closer and you have a personality bigger than the players on the team. Arsene Wenger, Sven Goran Eriksson, Vince Lombardi, Joe Torre, Mike Ditka, Graham Henry, Norma Plummer,Bobby Knight and Mal Tongue all spring to mind as personalities bigger than their players. One wonders if this is the reason they’re so successful – they can manage the massively paid egos in their stables through their own extraordinary ego. Perhaps Man-U need an egotistic wanker who knows football to be coach.
