3 tons of fun!!

He did it. Baz McCullum made 300 on a bowlers wicket and saved the test against the Indians.  This means the Indians leave our shores without a win!!  I don’t doubt that one of my former posts will cause a stir, but I’m having a rethink.  Nz were 90 odd for 5 in the second innings…dead and buried.  McCullum makes 300, BJ Watling makes 100 as does Jimmy Neesham.  Test saved.  The Indian team didn’t throw anything. Not in in this test nor the last.

This is the link to Mark Reason’s piece on stuff.co.nz this morning:

What a disastrous wanker.  The voice of bad reason (see what I did there?) has basically said Baz was given his runs by accusing the Indian fieldsmen of dropping catches.  The Indians are better than they used to be, but are still pretty bad. Brendon has made cricket popular again.  The Rugby kicks off this week in Canterbury and all anyone is talking about is 302 runs.  I’m reminded of an article the aforementioned author wrote at the beginning of summer:

I’ll let you read it, but it says McCullum’s got nothing and shouldn’t be skipper. Hmmmm, what about now?

I guess my point is….as a skeptic, I’m as guilty as anyone for bagging sports people when they don’t perform.  However, yesterday I was moved.  I saw a determined little bugger say “fuck you” to his critics and prove that he is one of the greats. Magnificent to see his dad, Stu there watching (who, if possible, is shorter) and beaming with pride as the ball disappeared to the boundary. I wish, for once, that tall poppy cutters like Mark Reason would get behind our great achievements instead of bagging them.  Mark – go find David Cunliffe’s chin!!
